CARE FOR THE UNEXPECTED

This platform is inspired by the festival of Unexpected Subjects, Cross-over festival for Art Science & Philosophy in 2023.

Central theme of the festival was that the way in which scientists and others look at something co-determines what is there to see. Scientific methods, technologies such as binoculars or microscopes, concepts, but also artistic means of shaping something, do not simply mirror a reality, but also generate things. They include some subjects and exclude others, such as people with dementia, learning disabilities, or psychiatric problems. Or people who speak different languages, such as sign language. Unexpected subjects can also be topics that are difficult to address. Such as giving words to a dance performance.

How to live together as non-standard subjects? How can scientific work accommodate unexpected subjects? How may artists and their audiences help?
This platform presents different galleries, publications and blogs that show cross-overs between art, science & philosophy. We added ‘care’ to this threesome, because we aim to figure out how to care for the unexpected.
