Abstract
The Tax and Customs Administration is the largest data-driven organisation in the Netherlands. Tax assessments require an enormous amount of binary data, which means a significant and specific interpretation of people’s lives in order to raise and collect taxes.
Both taxpayers and employees experience that this specific reduction has disadvantages. Some situations require knowledge that is not available in a system that is formed by dataism. Information gets lost and taking care of fair taxes becomes impossible.
In the project Materialised Noise participants give stage to elements of life that can be found between 0 and 1, by making a collection of materialized noise to counterpoint the noise reduction of a data-driven organisation. The collective artwork will be completed at the end of 2026.
De Belastingdienst is de grootste datagestuurde organisatie van Nederland. Belastingaanslagen vereisen een enorme hoeveelheid binaire gegevens, wat betekent dat het leven van mensen in aanzienlijke mate wordt gereduceerd en gespecificeerd om belastingen te kunnen heffen en innen.
Zowel belastingbetalers als medewerkers ervaren dat deze reductie nadelen met zich meebrengt. Sommige situaties vereisen kennis die niet beschikbaar is in een systeem dat is gevormd door dataïsme. Informatie gaat verloren en het wordt onmogelijk om goed voor de belastingen te zorgen.
What to expect:
In this workshop, you will create noise by photographing, filming or drawing. Your mobile phone is your camera and there will be paper, glue, pencils, soft pastels and fabrics to make your own noise.
Tijdens deze workshop ga je geluid maken door te fotograferen, te filmen of te tekenen. Je mobiele telefoon doet dienst als camera en er ligt papier, lijm, potloden, zachte pastelkrijt en stof klaar om je eigen ruis te creëren.
